The Emery Spartans completed the 2019-20 swim season as both the boys and girls competed at the 3A State Championship Meet Friday and Saturday at Brigham Young University in Provo.

Entering the meet as Region 12 Champions, the Lady Spartans finished fourth overall with 190 points. Carbon claimed the top spot for the second consecutive season, followed by Richfield and Rowland Hall. Judge Memorial completed the top-five.

The Emery boy’s team finished just outside the top-10 as they accumulated 89 points, placing them 11th overall. Union defeated Judge Memorial by a single point for first, while Richfield, North Summit and Grand rounded out the top-five teams overall.

Junior Haley Guymon finished third overall in the 200 yard IM with a final time of 2:22.46. The other top finish went to fellow junior Kaelee Hooley who ended third in the 100 yard butterfly at a time of 1:06. 57.

Both Guymon and Hooley joined Cambrie Jensen and Sydney Carter for a third place nod in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The groups time of 4:03.30 put them right behind Carbon, who finished in 4:02.18.

The top performance on the boy’s side of the pool came from the 200 yard medley relay team. Dax Minchey, Elias Morris, Asher Beagley and Mathew Hanson combined to finish in 1:50. 21.

This past weekend’s meet ends a highly successful swim season for Emery under head coach Alicia Whitesel. While competing at a high level throughout the year, both teams made their mark in region competition.
