The Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI rankings for the season in preparations for the State Championship Playoffs that begin on Saturday February 22.
Rich claimed the No. 1 spot with an overall record of 19-3. Next up is Whitehorse (15-4) and Monument Valley (17-5), both teams come out of Region 19. Valley (13-7) and Piute (15-6) make up the rest of the top five.
Each team now has their final ranking for the season and are in preparations for the State Championship Tournament. The top 13 teams will receive a first round bye and will advance to the second round on February 26.
The field of 19 will be cut to 16 after the 14-through-19 seeds will play in the opening round this Saturday on the higher seed’s home floor:
*No. 14 Pinnacle VS No. 19 West Ridge Academy
*No. 15 Manila VS No. 18 Intermountain Catholic
*No. 16 Tintic VS No. 17 Escalante
The second round will begin on February 26 as they will move the action to the Sevier Valley Center. The field of 16 will be cut in half to eight:
*No. 4 Valley VS No. 13 Green River
*No. 12 Water Canyon VS No. 5 Piute
*No 1 Rich VS Tintic/Escalante
*No. 9 Bryce Valley VS No. 8 Wendover
*No. 2 Whitehorse VS Manila/Intermountain Christian
*No. 10 Panguitch VS No. 7 Tabiona
*No. 3 Monument Valley VS. Pinnacle/West Ridge Academy
*No. 11 Wayne VS No. 6 Milford
The eight remaining teams will compete through the weekend and on Saturday February 29 we will crown a new State Champion. The final eight will be guaranteed two games as there will be a consolation bracket.
