The Green River Lady Pirates loss to Valley on Wednesday at the 1A State Championship Tournament dropped them into the consolation bracket, meaning that one more loss would bring an end to their season. Green River struggled to collect points early, and even though they found some offense in the final minutes the damage was done and they would lose the game 49-29.

Their opponent, the Piute Thunderbirds came into the game as the No. 5 seed and had fallen to the consolation bracket after a surprising upset at the hands of No. 12 Water Canyon.

The Pirates came out in the first quarter scoring six points and only trailing by four. By the halftime they found themselves down by 15 being outscored 17 to 6 in the second quarter. The fourth quarter is when they found the basket outscoring Piute 13-4 but the Thunderbirds had already built an insurmountable lead and the Lady Pirates would lose their second game of the tournament ending the 2019-2020 campaign.

Green River was led in this game by Talynn Lovato with 12 points. Abigail Irwin chipped in with eight while Morgan Bastian, Megan Vollmer and Brooquelyn Hatfield-Knight each scored three points in the loss.

With five juniors on this years squad the Pirates will only lose one senior to graduation, Sarah Vollmer. The Lady Pirates carried just eight players on the roster this year, so they have a good core of underclassman that were able to get important minutes throughout the regular season and the playoffs.
