The Carbon Dinos celebrated the opening of their brand new baseball park with a 4-2 win over the Payson Lions Tuesday afternoon in the first contest of the season.

Playing at Carbon High School for the first time in nearly six years, the Dinos overcame a one-run deficit in the fourth inning to pull away for good.

Carbon scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third. The one-run lead quickly vanished as Payson scored two in the top of the fourth. Carbon answered back immediately by recapturing the lead with a three-run effort in the bottom half of the same inning.

Junior Kade Dimick earned the win on the mound after pitching three solid innings, allowing five hits and striking out three batters. After loading up the bases late, Dimick struck out three straight batters to get the Dinos out of a pinch in the sixth inning.

Senior Kaleb Nelson also worked three innings, allowing no hits and striking out three. Sophomore Jordan Fossat worked one inning in relief, fanning one batter and allowing one hit.

Junior Brayton Nielsen delivered a multi-hit performance finishing 2-3 at the plate with one double and one RBI. The double marked the only extra base hit of the game for the Dinos.

Dimick helped his own cause offensively as he finished 1-3 with one RBI. Levi and Cooper Schade both logged one single each to round out the five hits for Carbon.

Facing three different pitchers throughout the game, Carbon rouged up Payson junior Carter Craghead who allowed four runs off of two hits in two innings as he faced 12 batters.

Tuesday’s opener marks the first of eight non-region games on the schedule for the Dinos. The second will come this Friday, again at home, against the Summit Academy Bears. Saturday Carbon will travel on the road to meet West.
