For the second straight week the Carbon Lady Dinos finished third overall at the Region 12 golf meet, this time in Moab.

Looking to improve off of last week’s season opening meet, the Lady Dinos again finished four-strokes back of the Emery Lady Spartans, ending with a 427. Richfield continued their early dominance with a 337. Grand, South Sevier and San Juan rounded out the field of six.

“It was a tough day, we just didn’t perform,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “Too many off line shots and off line shots at Moab will punish you. We also struggled on the greens.”

Senior Jordan Bianco again led the team with an individual score of 91. Kirsten Etzel was second with a 107, followed by Rhiannon Timmons’ 109. Savanna Rasmussen and Makalah Gomez both ended with a 120 for the team’s fourth score.

Entering the second competition four-strokes back of the Spartans, Carbon now trails by eight. The Dinos did however extend their lead over Grand to 123.

Monday marked the second meet in four days for all six schools. The teams will now receive a 10-day break before returning to competition on Thursday, March 19 at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.

“We play at home next week and we have to work,” said Otani. “Hopefully we can pick up a few shots then.”
