Unfazed by a slow start, the Emery Spartans scored six runs in the final three innings to sneak past the North Sanpete Hawks 6-5 Tuesday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Led sophomore Jace Mangum at the plate, the Spartans tallied 12 hits and six RBIs in the team’s most potent offensive performance of the season. As a team Emery accumulated two extra base hits.

Mangum finished 2-3 at the dish with two singles, two RBIs and one run. Four other players gathered one RBI, including junior Luke Stilson who ended 2-3 with one double and one run.

While the bats came alive for Emery, the struggles continued in the field as they were forced to overcome seven errors.

Sophomore Trevin Wakefield pitched six full innings, allowing 11 hits and three earned runs while fanning six batters. Kove Johansen pitched the final frame giving up just one hit.

Tuesday’s win was the first of three straight home games in as many days for the Spartans. Now 2-3 overall on the season, they will return to the field on Wednesday for a home contest against Payson.

Wednesday’s game will air on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM beginning with pre-game coverage at 2:45 p.m.. The live audio will also be available at castlecountryradio.com.
