The Carbon County Search and Rescue team are prepping for another great year of the Demolition Derby as this is their biggest fundraising event.

“So we’ve started with our Search and Rescue Demolition Derby, we’ve started our meetings and we’re getting ready to release our rules. If you’re somebody that is interested in building a car the rules for the minis, the minivans, the crazy trucks, the 80s or newer are all going to be the same as last year,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. The only class that is going to change is the misfit which will be the old iron rules used throughout that state. Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price will again be the hub for drivers to register, obtain a hard copy of the rules and direct any derby questions to.

Just a reminder that although the weather is warm in town there is still snow up in the higher country. “This time of year, the weather turns great down here, the mud dries out, people think, oh its great let’s go up in the mountains, and you can, you can go a long way but there are still big snowdrifts up there. I would say do not try to go over Bruin and drop down into Dry Canyon because you aren’t going to make it, the snowdrifts are too deep, it will be there till the end of May,” explained Sheriff Wood. If individuals find themselves stuck in the backcountry, they can call Search and Rescue for assistance but keep in mind they are not allowed to retrieve any vehicles they can only rescue individuals.

The Sheriff’s Posse is currently looking for members as Sheriff Wood explains, “If you’re a horse owner and you’re interested in being a member of the Sheriff’s Posse get a hold of me, we need posse members, I think we’re down to about five right now.  You know the posse of the old was amazing, there was about 15 of them, they were in every parade, they rode in a formation and stuff. Although we don’t utilize the Sheriff’s Posse like a Search and Rescue Team, they’re still a fun group to be around and they do some fun things.” This is a volunteer basis group that participates in various parades around the county while representing the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.
