This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines the spotlight on Sally Mauro Elementary. The school’s PTA Member, Kobi Prettyman stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about Ninja Math, attendance goals and selling chocolate bars.

This year students have been very busy perfecting their math skills as Prettyman explains, “So Ninja Math is just really focusing on those math facts – the  addition, subtraction, multiplication and division that kind of stuff that’s basic that they just need to have moving forward and so there’s really been a push on that to continue to work on that and get kids where they need to be to have those passed off.” Those that do pass are each recognized on the school’s Facebook page, plus they receive a small prize for their hard work.

Not only are students achieving greatness in mathematics but they also are making an effort in improving their school attendance. “There’s really been a push for attendance and every single month they get a little paper that says they had perfect attendance this month and they get their name put in for a drawing and they get to pick a prize and I think they’re even doing drawings for parents that when kids get good attendance then they’re putting parents in a drawing,” said Prettyman. It’s important to recognize the hard work of parents as they are a huge part of their student’s success when it comes to academics.

Each student at the school is looking for assistance from community members as they are hosting a fundraising event that will benefit the school. “We’re selling chocolates right now, we actually just started this week and so we’ll be selling those through the 24th so if you need chocolate right now Sally Mauro is the place to come because all the schools in our area sell them but they do a pretty good job about rotating when it is happening so right now Sally Mauro is the only place,” said Prettyman. Individuals can purchase chocolates from any student of Sally Mauro or they can contact the school for further information.
