The Carbon Lady Dinos softball team began their weekend in southern Utah on a winning note taking on Pine View on their home field in St. George. Carbon struck early and often proving to be too much for the 4A Panthers and taking the win 9-5.

The Lady Dinos jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third, adding one more run in the fourth they would take a 6-1 advantage into the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth Pine View would find some offense and three runs of their own, cutting the Dino lead to two at 6-4. Carbon added three more in the sixth to seal the 9-5 victory.

The Dinos were led in the game by Lyndsey Madrigal, she collected three hits to go along with her three runs. Mollie Horsley also collected three hits and Bryton Kimber added two hits to go with two runs and two RBIs. As a team the Dinos had 14 hits with a .452 batting average for the game.

On the mound for Carbon, Brooke Moosman went four innings giving up four hits, four runs (three earned) while walking two and striking out two. Getting the win was Tenley Madsen, going two innings giving up one hit, and one earned run while walking one and striking out two.

The Dinos will now take part in the St. George tournament this weekend. They will face Salem Hills at 8:30 Friday morning.

Carbon will return home after the tournament not knowing when their next game will take place or who they will face due to the Utah High School Activities Association suspending all sports starting Monday March 16 for a period of at least two weeks.

MIDVALE, Utah (March 12, 2020) – The Utah High School Activities Association is announcing the suspension of the Association’s State Debate Championships scheduled for this weekend due to ongoing prevention efforts with the COVID-19 virus.

The Association is also suspending all UHSAA spring activities beginning Monday, March 16, for a period of at least two weeks. Member schools and/or districts as a local decision may suspend spring activities immediately. Those member schools and/or districts will need to work with the UHSAA on suspensions. All out of state school related travel has been suspended immediately for a period of at least two weeks.

In consultation with board directives and information provided by state public health officials, the UHSAA has suspended spring activities to properly fulfill best practices regarding protection of students and the general public. More information will be sent to member schools and/or districts as it becomes available.
