On Friday, March 13, the Utah High School Activities Association announced a suspension of all spring sports activities beginning on Monday, March 16 for a period of at least two weeks due to the ongoing prevent efforts with the COVID-19 Virus.

Before the suspension of play was implemented, the Carbon High School baseball team had completed five regular season games, accumulating a record of 2-3. Four of the five games played this season came against opponents in a higher classification.

March 3:

Playing at Carbon High School for the first time in nearly six years, the Dinos overcame a one-run deficit in the fourth inning to top the Payson Lions 4-2 in the first game of the season.

Kade Dimick earned the win on the mound after pitching three solid innings, allowing five hits and striking out three batters. After loading up the bases late, Dimick struck out three straight batters to get the Dinos out of a pinch in the sixth inning.

Kaleb Nelson also worked three innings, allowing no hits and striking out three. Jordan Fossat worked one inning in relief, fanning one batter and allowing one hit.

Brayton Nielsen delivered a multi-hit performance finishing 2-3 at the plate with one double and one RBI. The double marked the only extra base hit of the game for the Dinos.

Dimick helped his own cause offensively as he finished 1-3 with one RBI. Levi and Cooper Schade both logged one single each to round out the five hits for Carbon.

March 6:

Holding a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth frame, Carbon was outscored 4-0 in the final four innings in an eventual 5-2 loss to Summit Academy at home.

Rylan Hart was charged with the loss on the mound, allowing just two hits and one earned run in two innings of work. While giving up two hits, Hart fanned three batters. Tyler Wright worked three innings, striking out five, while Wyatt Falk struck out four and walked three.

Jordan Fossat finished 3-3 at the plate, registering two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Carbon offense. Hart ended 1-4 with a double, while Kaleb Nelson singled in a 1-3 performance.

March 7:

Returning to the field just one day after suffering its first loss of the season, Carbon jumped back into the win column with a dominating 11-2 victory over West in Salt Lake City.

Cooper Schade earned the win on the mound after pitching two innings of no-hit and scoreless ball. Cayden Steele worked three innings, allowing no hits while striking out two. Levi Schade also saw time on the mound, giving up one hit, two earns and recording one strike out.

Derick Robison led the offensive explosion as he went yard for the first time this year in a 3-3 performance that included four RBIs. Cooper Schade ended 3-4 with two RBIs, three doubles and two runs.

March 9:

Two scattered runs was the extent of the offensive production as the Carbon Dinos suffered a 2-0 loss to Bountiful on the road.

Jordan Fossat and Tyler Wright combined for an outstanding tag team effort on the mound for the Dinos. Fossat pitched four solid frames allowing just two hits and two runs, while fanning five batters. Wright stepped in for relief work, striking out two of the nine batters he faced. The combined four hits put Bountiful’s batting average at a pedestrian .174 for the game.

Cooper Schade delivered a multiple hit performance finishing 2-3 with a double. Wright and Rylan Hart both singled for the other two hits.

Carbon batters found contact throughout the game as the team managed to limit their strike outs to six for the contest. A limited number of opportunities were left on the board as the Dinos stranded three runners throughout.

March 10:

The Carbon Dinos were unable to overcome a powerful performance from the 5A Provo Bulldogs in a 9-0 loss in Provo.

Rylan Hart recorded the lone hit for Carbon as he finished 1-2 at the plate with a single.

Kaleb Nelson was charged with the loss as he allowed seven hits and six earned, while striking out three during his time on the mound. Hart also received time on the mound striking out for of the seven batters he faced in the relief outing.
