Ted Prettyman has been named head coach of the Carbon High School wrestling program, it was announced by principal Chris Winfree earlier this week.

Prettyman, who served as an assistant last year under former head coach Brock Fausett, has four decades of coaching experience under his belt.

“We have an opportunity to bring in someone who has been apart of the program already,” said Winfree. “His experience with our wrestlers is something that is huge. Having someone that understands wrestling and can continue the things that coach Fausett has done, while adding his own wrinkle to it, was important to us.”

Prettyman wrestled for Carbon High School and also the College of Eastern Utah before graduating in 1971. He then transferred to Boise State where he wrestled one season in 1972.

With several stops over the past 40 years, Prettyman has served as an assistant in New Mexico, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Most notably, he worked as an assistant under legendary Wayne High School wrestling coach Kerry Anderson.

“It’s not the job, it’s the kids,” said Prettyman Wednesday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “I love the sport. I love how it brings kids to an understanding of life skills. It’s a beautiful sport and I enjoy being around the kids that participate in it.”

The next step for Prettyman will be to round out his coaching staff for the 2020-21 season.
