The Utah High School Activities Association announced an extension to the ongoing suspension of the Association’s spring activities and athletics, due to ongoing statewide prevention efforts with the COVID-19 virus.

As a result of Governor Herbert’s directive in a March 23 press conference, the Association continues to suspend all UHSAA spring activities and athletics, including practice and/or team gatherings, until at least May 1, in line with the state-recommended extension to the school soft closure.

The Region 12 girl’s golf season had completed two competitions at the time of the suspension. The Emery Lady Spartans had finished second in both meets, keeping a slim lead over the Carbon Lady Dinos in the overall standings.

Competing in the season opener on March 5, Emery gathered a second-place finish at Cove View in Richfield.

Angie Nielsen led the way for the Lady Spartans as she fired a team-low 93. Sydney Alton registered a 97, followed by Janika Beagley’s 103. Madi Mann and Macie Nielsen both finished with a 112 for the team’s fourth score.

Nielson’s 93 was the eighth best individual score in the region opener. Six Richfield golfers finished in the top seven, while Carbon’s Jordan Bianco sits fifth.

Emery once again delivered a second-place finish, coming in behind the Richfield Wildcats in the second Region 12 meet of the season on March 9 at the Moab Golf Course.

Led by Nielson once again, the Lady Spartans finished with a 423, giving them a four-stroke advantage over third-place Carbon. Richfield once again ran away with the meet, firing a 337 to extend their strangle hold on the region. Grand ended fourth, while South Sevier and San Juan rounded out the field of six.

Nielson again delivered the team low score of a 96. Alton was second with a 107, followed by Mann. The fourth score went to  Nielson with a 111.
