USU Eastern freshman Margarett Otuafi was named an honorable mention All-American by the NJCAA Divison 1 Women’s Basketball Committee Thursday afternoon.

Otuafi averaged 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.9-percent from the field, while starting 28 games for the Lady Eagles this past season. Otuafi’s production helped the team win a share of their first Scenic West Athletic Conference title and a 24-6 overall record.

Scoring double-figures in 20 of the team’s 30 games, Otuafi posted a season best 27 points in a 64-59 win over the Snow College Badgers in Ephraim on Feb. 13.

A member of the Region 18 First Team in 2019-20, Otuafi shared conference player of the year honors with Salt Lake Community College’s Awa Sidibe and Southern Idaho’s Petra Farkas.

Otuafi becomes the first USU Eastern basketball player to receive All-American recognition since Madison Loftus in 2016-17.
