This week’s Carbon School District updates shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary. Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to talk about how the school has been doing since its closure in March.

The school actually closed on the day that the fourth quarter would have begun so it was a great starting point for the school’s administration. “We are in week six I do believe of instruction, not counting the week of Spring Break and I believe last Wednesday was our mid-term for fourth quarter. This quarter has looked very differently this school year than the first three quarters,” said Principal Fluckey. These circumstances have been quite unique in that the administration has had to figure out how to teach without students inside classrooms.

The school has been working hard to instruct its students through various academic packets and with classes held online. “Not all our students were able to learn virtually at home, lack of technology, and thanks to Emery Telcom they provided free internet to those families in need, and then the school went ahead and checked out Chrome Books to families who didn’t have devices so that we are able to connect with are kids virtually as well,” said Principal Fluckey. School administration is very appreciative that Emery Telcom stepped up to provide those that needed internet with that service.

Usually, schools are getting ready to conduct end of year testing in May but due to COVID19 pandemic that is going to make it impossible to do this year. “So the teachers are kind of finishing up they’re normal, if you can call it that, virtually teaching this week. Then the first two weeks of May we do have some online activities for kids to participate in,” said Principal Fluckey. Teachers will still reach out to their students during this time to make sure that they are completing their school work.
