Greater comfort and accessibility is coming to the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center (BDAC), which is in the midst of a major renovation.

Construction is currently underway to replace the bleachers on the north side of the gymnasium with chair back seats, which sit behind the designated benches for home and visiting teams. The renovation will be completed in time for the 2020-21 event season, which begins in the fall with volleyball.

“We were able to finagle a deal to get actual seats on the north side of the gym,” said Athletic Director Scott Madsen. “They are amazing to see. More than anything, they are very comfortable.”

Bleachers will remain on the south side of the gymnasium, with the traditional extra bleachers underneath the east and west baskets.

“We’ve seen a lot more community support and that’s something that we pride ourselves on,” said Madsen. “We really want to be apart of the community and make them apart of us. We’ve had such a great crowd lately for events and that’s a big reason as to why we are able to make these improvements.”

Improvements are also underway for the facility’s weight room, which will include new flooring and dumbbells.

BDAC facilities are currently closed to the public until further notice to help decrease the spread of the coronavirus. An open date has not yet been announced by Utah State University.
