The Lady Dino Tennis squad had an up and down season finishing at 4-5. Facing off against some tough competition with three of their losses coming against teams who finished the year in the top 10 of 3A.
And as an added bonus all of Carbon’s State qualifiers were underclassmen, so we will look forward to next season as they get ready to take to the court again.

August 20- North Sanpete- Win 4-1
The Carbon girls tennis team took to the court coming away with a 4-1 team victory against the North Sanpete Hawks in Price.
Junior Nicole Swasey won her singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 and junior Ana Maria Olivas went 6-3, 4-6 and 10-2 to win her match.
On the doubles side Lizzie Blackburn and Alex Cartwright won in straight sets 6-3 and 7-5 as did Tennysen Coon and Kaydance Scovill 6-1 and 6-0.

Auugust 22- Manti- Loss 5-0
Off of their opening victory against North Sanpete, the lady Dino tennis team traveled to Manti with a different result. Not winning a varsity match the Dinos fell 5-0 to the Templars.
It was a tough outing for the ladies on the singles side losing all three matches in straight sets. The doubles teams didn’t fair much better winning only one set in both matches.
On the junior varsity side Duda Lopex won 8-2 and Lizzie Blackburn and Ana Maria Olivas both won their matches 8-1.

August 27- Juab- Loss 5-0
The Carbon Ladies tennis team fell to the Juab Wasps. After going 2-2 at the Uintah Basin Mash-up tournament in Roosevelt last weekend, they traveled to Nephi coming up short 5-0.
All three Varsity singles matches and both doubles matches were lost in straight sets. On The jv side Duda Lopex continued to impress winning 8-2.
Up next for the Dinos they will host Gunnison.

September 4- Gunnison Valley- Win 4-1
Coming off a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Juab Wasps last week, the Lady Dinos tennis team returned to the court beating the Gunnison Bulldogs 4-1 in varsity matches.
Lindsay Snow, Nicole Swasey and Ana Maria Olivas were victorious in all of their singles matches winning all in straight sets. The doubles team of Duda Lopex and Kaydance Scovill also registered a straight set victory.
The junior varsity teams continued to impress as both doubles matches were won in straight sets as well.

After going 1-3 at a tournament in St. George over the weekend, Carbon Ladies tennis returned to the friendly confines of the Price City tennis courts defeating the Delta Rabbits 3-2 in varsity matches.
In singles matches Lindsey Snow and Nicole Swasey were both defeated in straight sets while Ana Maria Olivas won her match.
On the doubles side of things Alex Cartwright and Lizzie Blackburn were victorious as was the team of Kaydance Scovill and Duda Lopex.

The Lady Dino Tennis squad faced Wasatch Academy this week on the tennis courts in Price. Carbon, who had one their last two meets looked to continue their winning ways and did send Wasatch Academy home on the losing side of a 5-0 score.
It was a perfect sweep on the varsity single side as Nicole Swasey won her match as well as Ana Maria Olivas and Lindsey Snow without dropping a single set.
The victories would continue on the doubles side as well with Alex Cartwright and Lizzie Blackburn winning in straight sets as did the doubles team of Kaydance Scovill and Duda Lopex.

September 24- South Sevier- Loss 3-2
Riding high on a three match winning streak the Carbon Dino tennis squad headed to Monroe to face South Sevier. When the dust settled the Dinos were left with a 3-2 loss.
Lindsey Snow won her singles match 6-0, 6-3. Nicole Swasey and Ana Maria Olivas would both fail to take victory in the other varsity singles matches on the day.
Kaydance Scovill and Duda Lopex took the win in their varsity doubles match in three sets and Alex Cartwright and Lizzie Blackburn couldn’t find a way to overcome their opponent and fell in straight sets.

September 26- Emery- Loss 3-2
Still reeling from their loss at South Sevier, the Lady Dinos traveled to Castle Dale for a date with rival Emery on their home courts. Every match was hotly contested as you would expect but it was the Spartans that would come away the victor 3-2.
Nicole Swasey would claim a win in her singles match as would Ana Maria Olivas. Lindsay Snow would drop her singles match but not with out a fight taking her match to three sets.
On the doubles side Emery would go on to defeat both Carbon teams consisting of Kaydance Scovill and Duda Lopex as well as the team of Alex Cartwright and Lizzie Blackburn.

After dropping their last two matches, the Lady Dino tennis squad would face off against region foe Richfield. The Dinos were outgunned in their final match of the year before tournament time rolls around falling to the Wildcats 5-0.
Carbon couldn’t find a victory in any of their matches losing all five in straight sets.

October 11-12 – 3A State Tournament- Liberty Park Salt Lake City
The Lady Dinos Tennis team took part in the final tournament of the year. The 3A State Championship Tournament was held at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. Fielding spots on each of the five brackets, the Dinos unfortunately were unable to move past the first round.
The season began back in August and culminated in the second week of October. The Dinos were represented by freshman Lindsay Snow (1st singles) and Lizzie Blackburn (2nd doubles). Juniors who participated were Nicole Swasey (2nd singles), Ana Maria Olivas (3rd singles), Kaydance Scovill and Maria Lopes (1st doubles). Laurie Perry competed in 2nd doubles as well.
