Garry Max Anderson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 83 passed away peacefully in the Emery County Care and Rehab Center in Ferron, Utah on May 26, 2020.

Max was born to Nola Beck and George H. Anderson, in Lark, Utah, on February 24, 1937. He was the youngest of three boys.

He attended Murray High School, where he met and married Ranae Simonson. They had two sons. They later divorced. He married Vicki Lynn Peterson on August 31, 1973, Vicki and Garry had one son.

Max followed in his father’s work boot straps, working in the heavy equipment construction field. He started right out of high school at Kennecott Copper, and from there worked at various construction jobs, from highways, to freeways, from damns to the power plant in Emery County, where he and his wife Vicki and son put roots in Ferron for 43 years until his death.

He was very proud of his well-earned reputation as an excellent “Cat Skinner”, and cherished the many friendships he made over the years.

He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 3 since 1960. His hard work, cost him his health, due to a back disability and he was forced to retire in 1995. But, he loved reminiscing about the “Good Ole days” and sharing his many construction experiences with family and friends, and especially with his construction buddies.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. After retirement, he would go on 4 wheeling rides with his friends. He loved watching sports and was an avid Utah Jazz fan. His most favorite past time, however, was working in his annual vegetable, garden, where God forbid should a weed show itself! For many years, townspeople would comment on his having one of the nicest gardens in Ferron. He was heartbroken when his disabled back would no longer allow him to do his favorite outdoor activities.

He was a member of the Price ELKS lodge #1550.

Max is survived by his wife, Vickie, sons Garry Duke (Geneva) Anderson, George Eric (Linda) Anderson Christopher Lee (Jennifer) Anderson, Four grandchildren, Seven Great-grandchildren, sister in laws, brother in laws… Many nieces and nephews.

Max is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Verdin G. and Noel A.

To say that Max will be missed, is an understatement. He was a kind and loving man who was gifted with more common sense, than most.

He would like to thank all those tireless workers at the dialysis center in Price, for the last five months of his life… also, the loving caregivers at Rocky Mountain Hospice and the Emery County Care Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily. At the family’s request, there will be no memorial service at this time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Family members are encouraged to reach out to Vicki at a later date and arrange for a small gathering to celebrate the life of Max.
