The Utah Section PGA played host to an individual High School State Championship Tournament on Thursday, June 4 at the Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City. The competition gave members of the Carbon Lady Dinos golf team one last opportunity to compete in 2020.

Playing as individuals only, senior Jordan Bianco shot an 88, finishing 12th overall. Fellow senior Rhiannon Timmons shot a 103, ending in a tie for 22nd place.

Morgan’s Ellie DeMond took home the championship after shooting a plus-1, 75 on the afternoon. Richfield’s Ellie Hair ended two-strokes back in second, while Piper Harris, also from Richfield, ended plus-7 in third.

Bianco, who led the Lady Dinos throughout the condensed golf season, finished one-stroke back of the top 10 and two-strokes back of the top six. Registering a birdie on hole no. 6, she finished with eight pars for the tournament.

Timmons finished just two-strokes shy of the top 20. Her highlight of the afternoon came on hole no. 13 where she recorded a birdie. Timmons also parred two holes on the afternoon.

Making an effort to create an experience for the spring high school golf season, the Utah PGA sent out invitations to each golf coach throughout the state. Each coach was then able to invite six players to participate.

The tournament, which was not sanctioned by the Utah High School Activities Association, followed CDC guidelines. Those restrictions meant the flag stick must be left in and no rakes in bunkers throughout the course.
