The final home double-header of the season ended with a split for the Helper Merchants Tuesday evening at Ernie Gardner Field.

Down to the final three games of the regular season, the Merchants welcomed in Provo for a crucial two game set. After cruising to a 14-4 victory in the first game, Helper fell short as the offense went stale in a 6-2 decision to close out the evening.

Wyatt Falk led an offensive clinic for Helper in the first game of the evening as he finished 2-3 with a single, double and two RBIs. Kade Dimick also delivered a standout performance ending 3-4 with a triple and two runs.

Braxton Bennett logged the win on the mound as he kept Provo in tact throughout most of the game. Tyler Wright closed out the contest in relief to help secure the victory.

“I was proud of the way played in the first game,” said manager Dakota Cisneros. “That was Helper baseball.”

Unable to ride the momentum of the win into the second game, the Merchants struggled at the plate in the eventual 6-2 setback.

While the offense struggled, Rylan Hart proved to be one of the few bright spots for Helper. Registering three hits in three at bats, Hart brought both runs in as he finished with two RBIs.

Patience at the plate for Provo and control issues from the mound plagued Helper. As a team the Merchants walked 14 batters, leading to the six runs from Provo.

“We struggled to string hits together and struggled from the mound,” Cisneros said. “That makes it tough to win against anyone, especially Provo.”

Sitting 5-4 in division play, the Merchants will welcome in Wasatch Wednesday night for the regular season finale. Currently tied for second place in the region, Wednesday night’s tilt could provide clarity in the current race for the state tournament.

Wednesday’s finale is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m..
