With so many activities going on in the Castle Country area you can bet that Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood and his deputies are looking forward to being a part of all of them.

“You’ll see Deputy Sheriff’s at just about every event that’s going on this weekend, especially the parade and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast,” said Wood. “I’m going to be over to the Green Eggs and Ham breakfast Saturday morning at 9 o’clock, be over serving for that and then for the parade right after that, the St Patrick’s Day parade that will be fun.”

Wood encourages members of the public to approach deputies’ introduce yourselves, strike up a conversation and get to know them.

As a member of the Sheriff’s Association, Wood was able to attend a few sessions of the legislative process at the State Capital. “Overall I thought it was a good session we didn’t really get to involved in anything I mean there’s not any bill, like last year we got the Justice Reinvestment Intuitive that directly affected our jail. I don’t think anything like that happened in this session, so I think we are good that way,” stated Wood. The JRI was a huge topic last year for the Sheriff’s Association but they have worked together as a whole to get the ball rolling to get that program establish in their said region.

The Sheriff’s department is looking forward to the Demolition Derby this year which will coincide with the Carbon County Fair in August. “We’ve added two new classes that are more affordable, you can build the cars pretty cheap, they are chain and bang, 80s or new class for cars and minis, so anyone that has a mini that wants to bring a mini into the derby we’ll have that. There may be, there is talk of some other Sheriffs building cars and having a Sheriffs heat. I don’t know if we are going to make that happen for sure or not, it just depends how many Sheriffs build cars,” stated Wood. More details of the derby will come as the event date gets closer.
