The city of Wellington is excited to be hosting their Pioneer Days Celebration entitled Country Roads Take Me Home on July 21 and July 22. The city is looking forward to having visitors come out for this annual gathering taking place at the city’s Main Street Park. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representative, Jennifer Clark to get the full line-up of events that will be taking place this year.

The festivities will kick-off on Friday, July 21 at noon for Kids Free Fishing Day at the Knight Ideal Pond. There will be free ice cream shared with the first 100 kids and this event will be open till 5:00 pm. Then families can gather that evening inside the Main Street City Park for a Community Picnic. “So its going to be at Wellington City Park and it’s going to be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, its going to be free for the public. We’re doing sloppy joes and we’re having lots of side dishes. But we are asking the community if you’re coming please bring a dessert to share,” stated Clark. Following the picnic there will be dancing taking place from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm so come out to enjoy a fun evening with your friends, family and neighbors.

Saturday kicks off bright and early with breakfast in the park at 7:00 am with the Wellington City Council cooking up a hearty breakfast for folks. The parade will follow at 10:00 am with a big change in the route this year because UDOT will not allow for the main highway to be disrupted and shut down. “So we are moving the parade route and its going to be down 1st East. That’s that road that goes right next to the park and so we are going to start at the back of that road, kind of by Ridge Road, there’s a little bridge, and we’re going to start at the bridge, and we’re going to come up 1st East and we’ll turn left on Railroad Avenue, and we’re going to end at the little ballfield, its just like a block from that,” explained Clark. This new route will be safer and more convenient for participants and spectators.

Once the parade is over all the fun will start at the Main Street City Park at 11:00 am. “So we have so many activities in the park on Saturday. Of course, we’re going to have the vendors but we’re going to have kid games, and the scouts are going to be over this. They’re going to be organizing games for the kids and that’s going to be on the ballfield section. We’re also going to have sprinklers, wading pools, and slip n’ slides, – so just right after the parade all that will be going on,” said Clark. Other activities and events taking place will be a horseshoe and cornhole tournament, cowboy poetry, outlaw stories, pie eating contest, BINGO and egg toss. Guests can finish out the day by attending the Wellington Rodeo scheduled to take place at 6:00 pm.
