The field of 16 has been reduced to eight as the high school basketball season continues with the 3A quarterfinals in Cedar City at the Centrum on the campus of Southern Utah University Thursday afternoon.

The opening round featured three seeding upsets as Richfield defeated Logan 37-28, Pine View topped Union 54-48, and Morgan defeated Juab 56-51. The remainder of the higher seeds served home court Friday evening to advance to the final stage this weekend.

While Region 12's Carbon and Richfield won their first round matchups to advance, Juab and North Sanpete lost by slim margins. The talented Region 9 division finished with the best advancement as three of the four teams earned wins in the opening round. 

The season will reach it's end point Saturday with basketball on three consecutive days. While a loss eliminates a team from the championship discussion, each remaining team is guaranteed at least two games in consecutive days. Below is the current bracket heading into Thursday.
