The USU Eastern Theatre department will present their final production of the school year, Rumors written by Neil Simon on Thursday, April 14 through Saturday April 16, then again for a second week on Thursday, April 21 through Saturday, April 23 at the Petersen Black Box Theatre located in the Central Instructional Building.

Dr. Corey Ewan, Associate Professor of Theatre & Film said, “Rumors is a farce written by Neil Simon it’s about a group of friends who are arriving at a dinner party its pretty wild fun.” The plot is a murderous charade of four couples arriving at an anniversary celebration party for New York’s deputy mayor and his wife, only to find the mayor wounded in bed and the wife missing, its sure to be a barrel of laughs for the audience.

The Geary Theatre is still under renovations for the next two years so the Petersen Black Box Theatre makes for more of an intimate setting for the actors and audience.

“It’s a lot smaller venue, in fact, for seating this time we only got 81 I think it is, but I think they will like the way it is, we’ve got the set on one corner and the audience on the other and we haven’t done that before,” said Ewan. After the production is over members of the Theatre department will be helping remove items such as costumes, props etc. from the Geary Theatre so contractors can start the process of the asbestos removal.

There will no longer be matinees offered for any productions as Ewan explained further, “We aren’t having matinees anymore they were really kind of poorly attended and it was costing us money, we weren’t really making any money on it so we discontinued the matinees. We will then pick it up the following Thursday, which is April 21 and play till the 23. Curtain time is as always 7:30, so you’ll want to get to the theatre early and again seating is going to be fairly limited so you’ll want to get there soon it is general seating.”  The Theatre Department performs top quality productions and would like nothing more for members of the community to come see the talent at USU Eastern.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office and box office opens at 6:30 pm. “Adults $10.00 and then seniors is $7.00, and if you are a USU Eastern student with a current ID that is $1.00 otherwise its $5.00 and any other student from any other school, high school or university its $5.00 and faculty and staff is $5.00,” stated Ewan. Children under 6 years of age will not be admitted.
