School is winding down in the Castle Country area and that means its Prom season and before we know it, its high school graduation festivities for high school students. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood had some very sound advice for students and parents to practice for the last few months of school.

Prom this year for the Carbon High School will be held at the Carbon County Fairgrounds Event Center. “The Carbon High School has partnered with the Sheriff’s Office and there will be deputies out there at the Prom this year. We want the kids to all have fun but we want them to all be safe and responsible while they are having fun,” explained Wood. “My message is if you are a high school kid going to Prom be where you are suppose to be. Don’t go to the side parties, that’s the places you’re going to get yourself in trouble. Go to the Prom, enjoy the Prom and have that experience. Parents know where your kids are suppose to be as well. Seems like the kids that aren’t where they are suppose to be are the ones that get into trouble.” School administrators along with the deputies will be on the premises to ensure that all students will have a safe and enjoyable night without being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The annual Demolition Derby will be held in conjunction with this year’s Carbon County Fair in August. “Derby is around the corner and I’m excited about it. You know I want to encourage people to get their cars built, we have a few people starting to register. It’s still free to register for the derby till June and with the mini chain a bang rules, the 80s sand newer class and the minis cars aren’t that expensive to build, you can build a car for a couple hundred dollars,” said Wood.  All proceeds from the event go to the Carbon County Search and Rescue team which runs solely on donations and the members of the team are a volunteer basis only.

Citizens will see an increase of deputes patrolling around Carbon County to insurance citizens are enjoying outdoor activities safely and responsibly. “You know people will start to getting outside a lot more. Our night shifts will get busier, our night patrols because there will be more activity at night time than there is in the day. Summer brings a little different dynamic because that’s when you have more of the party atmosphere, you know, you might have issues with that,” stated Wood.

Individuals interested in signing up for the demolition derby may do so at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office located at 240 West Main Street.
