The Carbon County Senior Centers serve residents who are sixty and older by promoting physical, emotional wellbeing of seniors in all aspects of community life. A large part of the Senior Centers both in Price and East Carbon are to focus on a well-balanced daily lunch meals for seniors but that has now been cut from five days a week to four.

Deborah Kobe, Carbon County Senior Activities Director said, “Since the beginning of the year there has been some budget shortfall and so instead of serving an in-house meal five days a week we have eliminated Fridays. Home bound, the mobile meals people continue to get their meals seven days a week if they so desire.” Individuals are determined to be “homebound” under state guidelines.

In-house participants are provided the opportunity to contribute a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal; however meals are available to seniors regardless of ability to pay.

“We’re looking for sponsors to help us keep those Friday meals active so people that need that Friday meal can come in. For the center located in Carbon County in the Price area we need $350.00 to do a nice well rounded meal and in East Carbon because there is few people that come in it would be about $90.00,” said Kobe. In 2015 both Carbon County Senior centers served 68,035 meals with 39,714 of those meals delivered to qualifying seniors through the Mobile Meal program.

Kobe finished with, “We have already received sponsors, you know people have called and said I want to sponsor, so I want to take the opportunity to thank those people who have sponsored, we have Friday meals clear up into July now.” The goal is to get sponsorship for meals for the entire year.

Businesses who have made pledges thus far are Miner’s Trading Post, Carbon Medical Services EC, EC Card Players, EC Recreation, AARP, EUCCU, The Tony Basso Group, House of Hearing and Webb Tours. Private individuals have stepped up to help as well, Mike and Leanne Milovich, David Debby Kobe, Bonnie Bell, Helen Garr and Brenda Richardson.
