The Emery Spartans completed the track and field season Friday and Saturday as they traveled to Brigham Young University to compete in the 2A state championships.
Scoring 26 points over the two day competition, the boys team finished tied with Enterprise for eighth overall. North Summit’s 101 points was enough to hold off second place Delta’s 96 point performance. South Summit, Millard and Beaver rounded out the top five.
The Lady Spartans finished just outside the top 10 with a 12th place showing as they scored 21 points. North Summit easily won the state title scoring 142 points, topping second place Delta. North Sevier, Millard and Enterprise completed the top five.
Junior Erin Hurst logged the highest individual finish for the Lady Spartans finishing third in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:46.67. On the boy’s side of the track senior Tyler Olsen also delivered a third place performance using a metric jump of 1.88 in the high jump.
Ty Mecham helped accumulate five points for the Spartans as he finished fourth in the shot put. Raymond Brazier ended fifth in the javelin, Logan Cox delivered a sixth place score in the 400 meters and Ashton Dieli came in eight in the 100 meter hurdles. The 4X100 team consisting of Brazier, Dieli, Olsen, Cox, Dalton Hinkins and Jake Jensen finished sixth.
Outside of her third place performance in the 3200 meters Hurst also ended sixth in the 1600, scoring three points for the Lady Spartans. Senior Paytn Jeffs finished fifth in the high jump and Bayler Griffin ended sixth in the 100 meters.
The Lady Spartans Medley relay team consisting of Jeffs, Griffin, Hurst, Camrey Johnson Tiana Jensen and Morgan Hurdsman finished sixth. The 4X100 team made up of Jensen, Hurdsman, Johnson, Griffin, Jeffs and Josie Funk finished eighth. The 4X400 squad comprised of Funk, Hurdsman, Shyler Griffin, Belle Bowers and Brooke Jensen also finished eighth.
