A Retirement Celebration will be held for Rhonda Peterson, Director of the Fairgrounds and Event Center on Wednesday, May 25 at 3:00 pm on the second floor of the County Administration Building located at 751 East 100 North in Price.

Peterson started as Office Manager in 1986 where she was contracted through the county to work for Utah State University and the Department of Agriculture. She was lucky that her children were in school when she began to work full-time for the county. By the time the Event Center was built and consumed her life her kids were off living their own lives, which made it somewhat easier.

Over the last 30 years she has seen a lot of changes. “The Event Center is probably the biggest change and one that some people have loved and others not so much,” stated Peterson.

When Peterson was asked what was the most challenging when it came to her job she stated, “Changes, permits, paperwork, liability issues etc.  Over the years it has changed drastically, that at some point you didn’t feel that you could keep up.  When you oversee a facility and run events there are so much that is involved.”

What she will miss the most about her job is the people of Carbon County, the diversification and all that Carbon County has to offer. “I have always felt that we have a wealth of opportunity here in this community, we just need to cultivate it better and we are working on that,” stated Peterson.

Peterson’s immediate plans after retirement are to take some much needed “me” time and catch up on things. As for future plans, “None at the moment because my better half won’t be retiring for a few years, maybe a part-time job and some travel.”

Finally, what does her family think about her retirement. She said, “They are fully in support of my retiring.  The last twelve years has really taken a toll; long hours, working holidays, running late or missing out on things.  But I wouldn’t change a thing.  I loved my job and especially the people that I worked with.  This community is the greatest and I will see you all out there somewhere.”
