Summertime brings a lot of outdoor activities to the Castle Country area and Sheriff Jeff Wood wanted to remind the community to be careful while driving on the roads in our community this weekend because of the competitors competing in the annual Lunatic Triathlon.

“I just want to make everyone aware that it starts at 10 o’clock Friday night there will be bicyclists in Carbonville that’s part of their route they ride on and it’s the last leg of their event, so it will be kind of later at night probably 11ish. You’ll see bicyclists there so if you can avoid Carbonville, just avoid it and just want everyone to be safe and have fun,” stated Wood. This event brings competitors from all over the state as well as from other states.

The kids’ triathlon will take place at 8:00 pm at Washington Park in Price. “They actually ride their bicycles around the block of the park, around the wave pool and all that so third east, right in the block it’ll be a little congested around 8:00 till probably 9:30,” said Wood. All drivers are strongly urged to use caution while both young and adult competitors are on the road during the triathlon.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue is still taking entries at Tire King for the Demolition Derby that is to take place in conjunction with the Carbon County Fair.  “It’s free right now, with the chain and bang class it’s not too expensive to build a car, it’s very inexpensive. Paul and Elsie at Tire King will even give you advice on what you need to do,” said Wood. A board is set up at Tire King showing the drivers who are registered at this point. Wood would like to challenge individuals to come out, build a car and be a part of the derby this year.

Summertime means hot days so a lot of individuals are heading up to higher ground to seek refuge from the heat in town. Wood gave some sound advice for campers after helping with a camper fire up in the mountains on Monday, “Just want to let people know that the camping season is upon us, make sure you check all your equipment out. Your equipment is good to go and don’t just rely on luck, make sure things are not leaking, propane leaks or anything like that.”
