The KARB Kickin Country 98.3 Annual Pie Auction was a huge success this year. Members of the community called in to bid on various pies that were donated by area merchants and/or individuals.

The pies ranged from good ol American Apple pie, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate pie, cherry cheesecake and Rose Barnes’ famous baklava. All the pies were bundled with various items such as certificates to Cowboy Club, Helper Pool, Seven Peaks Water park, concert tickets, as well as items such as gift baskets, chaise lounge chairs, mulch/bark and a chainsaw.

The auction kicked off at 9:00 am with Mallery and Jordan hosting the event on air. They took time to interview several guests that were survivors and/or had a loved one that was affected by cancer. They spoke on how the fuel card program help them or their loved ones when they were receiving treatment.

The entire auction is a way for the community to come together and give back to friends, neighbors and family members in the form of $100 fuel cards so that they may travel in order to receive cancer treatments.

IMG_0254Governor Gary Herbert was on his way south campaigning and stopped in to encourage listeners to donate to the Pie Auction as well as pick up the two pies he purchased that were donated by The Cowboy Kitchen. Governor Herbert also up the ante on one of the pies by including a personal tour of the Governor’s Mansion along with the First Lady. The winner of the pie bid $500.00 and will be able to take a tour along with their immediate family as their guests.

Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood helped close out the auction by assisting Jordan get bids in from the community. He donated an apple pie and tried to throw in a ride in the SWAT van, try-on SWAT gear if he got a bid of $300.00. Unfortunately, the bid on his pie was $50.00 short of the individual to receive the SWAT package.IMG_0261The final pie was a huge four-pound peach blueberry concert pie donated by Kickin Country. The package included two tickets to seven different concerts at the USANA Amphitheatre this summer. The bidding on the pie started at 9:00 am and ran through the entire day of the auction. The pie was a battle at the end between Dr Larsen with Pinetop Medical and Dinosaur Tire. To add fuel to the fire Wood threw in a bonus to the highest bidder that pledged $2000.00 could tase him in a public setting….. Congratulations to Dr. Larsen with Pinetop Medical. Wood will let the community know when the tase experience will occur.

Overall the entire Pie Auction was a huge success, it would not have been possible without the members of Relay for Life answering phones, Castle Country Radio and most importantly, the community for placing bids.

There was not an official count of the proceeds earned this year, but a guesstimate was around $8,480.00.
