The Silver State International Rodeo for high school qualifiers from all over the country took place over the weekend, as the Emery Spartans were well represented in Winnemucca, Nev.

Riata Christiansen represented Emery High School in the reigned cow horse, finishing second overall. McCoy Christiansen, finished sixth in the same event. McKoy Christiansen will compete in the national saddle bronc competition in Wyoming.

Nathan Urie ended second in the saddle bronc, just behind Austin Davis. After finishing just outside the national qualifying ranks with a fifth place finish at the state finale in June, Urie wrapped up the season on a high note.

Heber City played host to the Utah High School Rodeo Association’s state finals three weeks back, qualifying several participants from schools around the state for the Silver State competition. In order to qualify student-athletes had to finish five through 15. The top four finishers in each event qualified for the national competition, which has yet to take place in Gillette, Wyo.
