The Helper American Legion baseball team wrapped up the regular season with two victories over Vernal Tuesday evening to finish league play 11-1.

Clinching the division crown on Friday, Helper had little to play for in the regular season finale, but still managed to win both games with relative ease. Knocking off Vernal 9-5 in game, the team completed the double-header sweep with a 14-1 win to close out the evening.

Anthony Maclean delivered an outstanding performance from the mound in the first game to record the win. Multiple errors in the final frame allowed Vernal to score four runs, in what was a stellar defensive performance.

Tiger Thayn laced a two RBI single in the second inning to give Helper the early lead. Cole Fossat’s double in the third frame, followed by a single from Taylon Abeyta helped increase the lead. Entering the fourth inning Helper had captured a hefty 5-1 advantage.

Following a slow start offensively in the second game of the double-header, Helper scored eight runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take control for good. With the score tied 0-0 in the fourth,

Chase Morgan knocked an RBI single and Ty Anderson registered a triple to score three total runs. Abeyta and Gardner both hit triples in the fifth and Zac Bradley’s single helped add another five runs to Helper’s total. Tel Gardner received the win from the hill.

With the regular season now complete, Helper will begin preparation for the state tournament, beginning Monday at Layton High School. Before tournament play begins Helper will host the PCH All-Star team on Friday at 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
