Kyle Wilson has been named head coach of the Carbon High School boys basketball team, it was announced by school Athletic Director Ted Bianco.

“We interviewed three very good candidates, and as a committee made a decision to hire Kyle,” said Bianco. “He has been apart of Carbon basketball for several years, and will bring a wealth of knowledge to the program and community.”

Wilson, who graduated from Carbon in 2002, will takes over the program in place of former head coach Jeff Cisneros. Cisneros resigned in June after holding the position for five seasons.

Wilson served as an assistant under Cisneros for the past five years, and was the head coach at Mont Harmon Junior High School before making the jump to Carbon. Wilson also played point guard for Bianco for two seasons.

“One of the things that I saw in his interview was that he cares about the kids,” said Bianco. “He has spent a lot of time with the kids who are already in the program, and he’ll have a lot of strength moving forward with that experience.”

While Wilson’s coaching staff has not officially been named, Bianco says he expects fellow assistant coach Mike Gagon to return in 2016-17. Last season Carbon finished third in Region 12 and held a roster that featured six seniors.
