The Helper Miner’s Memorial Satellite Monument Dedication will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 2:00 pm. The monument will commemorate the history of mining in Carbon County by listing the names of the mines and will indicate the number of miners who lost their lives in each.

Mayor Ed Chavez will start the program with welcoming remarks, posting of colors will be led by American Legion Post #3 and the National Anthem will be sung by Mekette Keele Hodges.

Dedication of the monument will be given by Mike Dalpiaz who is the UMWA International Vice President. Other guest speakers will include Tony Basso, Thomas Williams who is a retired Coal Miner and Chairpersons Frank Markosek and Dennis Ardohain.

Blessing of the monument will be given by Allen Hughs and Micah Iverson, followed by closing remarks by Mayor Chavez.

This is the fifth satellite monument of a five phase project that has been planned by the committee. Other monuments have been constructed along with ceremonies over the summer in Pleasant Valley Days in Scofield, Community Days in East Carbon, San Rafael Museum in Castle Dale and Huntington Memorial Park.
