The 69th Annual Green River Melon Days Celebration will take place on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. There will be several activities/events for all ages from a car show to a softball tournament, lots of vendors and entertainment in the park.

Friday will kick off with the co-ed softball tournament and will play into the night until it is completed which is usually well into the wee hours on Saturday. Saturday, will begin the men’s tournament which usually plays well into Sunday morning. The tournament is double elimination and brings in teams from all over the state. Other sporting events to be held are a three-man scramble golf tournament on Friday and a three gun and trap shoot on Saturday.

There will be square dancing for individuals that want to “do-si-do” in the evenings on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17, the cost to participate is $6.00 per dance and there will be an opportunity for dancers to win door prizes.

Saturday morning will start with a Melon 5K Run/Walk at 6:30 am, participants will line up at the Green River High School and end at the little league field. The cost for the event is $10.00 – if participants take advantage of the early registered due date of Monday, September 5; otherwise the cost is $15.00.

The local Boy Scout Patrol 289 will be serving up a delicious pancake breakfast at Anderson Park from 7:00 am till 9:00 am, proceeds earned from the event help will fund the group’s camps and outdoor adventures. The breakfast will be followed by the annual parade that will take place on main street at 10:00 am.

A new activity this is year is Chalk the Museum which will be held at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum. Participants will get a free box of chalk and are encouraged to draw a mural relating to the theme of “exploration” on the side of the museum.

There will be lots of food, arts & crafts vendors, live entertainment and all you can eat water melon from local growers inside the park for the celebration.
