The Southeastern Utah Health Department, in conjunction with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, is monitoring the algae bloom in Scofield Reservoir.

As of Thursday, August 25 2016 The algae numbers continue to drop, but the algae are producing low levels of toxins.  The primary concentration of algae and toxins are at the Madsen Bay Boat ramp and the Frandsen Scout Reservation bay.  We continue to advise caution when recreating in these waters, particularly in the northern part of the reservoir.

Some things to be aware of:

  • PRWID & Price City are aware of the issue & treated drinking water is completely safe.
  • Pets should not be in water that has algae.  They are smaller & drink more and are at greater risk.
  • Do not use contaminated water for washing, showering, or bathing.
  • Fish that are cleaned properly are okay to eat.
  • If algae gets on your skin, wash it with soap and water.  Pay attention to possible rash.
