The 13th Annual Haunted History Tours is underway for the Halloween season. There are six remaining tours scheduled the next few Friday and Saturday evenings but they are filling up fast. Each tour begins at 7 pm, involves a bit of walking and last approximately 90 minutes.

The cost for adults is $10 per tour and children ages 5 years to 12 years of age is $8 per tour. Each tour is limited to 40 participants.

SueAnn Martell was born and raised in Carbon County and has always had a passion for the history of our area. She also added, “I love ghosts, love ghost hunting and so they just went hand in hand. I had to find out the history behind the ghosts.”

Along for the ride with Martell has been her partner, Daren Teply. Both host the haunted tours each year in full historic costumes. Martell says it just enhances the overall experience for the participants.

There is several different locations that are scheduled throughout the annual Haunted History Tour. “Walking Price Main Street, we do the Price City Cemetery, after dark; we do Spring Canyon with the White Lady and old Castle Gate Cemetery and mine,” explained Martell.

According to Martell, she said that Teply has always been her biggest skeptic so when he does find something on a tour or out ghost hunting, she says it can be a bit scary. Teply added, “We pull out the toys so you have the little EMF detectors sitting there flashing, sometimes it flashes in line with the story and it causes people to freak out, especially if a dog starts howling.”  Which Martell reassured everyone it has happened several times on the tours.

Out of all the places visited on the Haunted History Tours, Teply said, “The neat thing about the Price City Cemetery is it becomes kind of a Peyton Place. When you stand in the right places, mortal enemies are buried right next to each other.”

The Ghostly Miners of Castle Gate and Royal on Saturday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 19.
