The USU-Eastern women’s soccer team will travel to Ephraim for the first ever Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament Thursday at Snow College.

After finishing the season with a record of 7-2-3, the Lady Eagles will enter the conference tournament the No. 2 seed setting up a first round meeting with No. 3 Salt Lake Community College on Friday. A win for the Lady Eagles would put them in the conference championship game on Saturday.

Starting the season with 8-0-1 in their first nine games of the year, the Lady Eagles climbed into the national top 20 rankings. Losses to conference opponents Salt Lake and Snow dropped USU-Eastern from the poll, but team managed to recover to finish without a loss in their last four games.

“The national ranking was nice, but it really doesn’t mean anything,” said head coach Ammon Bennett on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports Wednesday. “We only have two losses on the year, so its been a great season and we just want that to continue with a win on Friday.”

The three game season series between USU-Eastern and Salt Lake has been as even as could be with each team winning one and the other ending in a tie. Both team’s secured a one-goal win, while the other contest ended scoreless.

“Our girls have gone through some injuries which forced us to move some players around and change some formations,” Bennett said. “Right now we are as healthy as we could be minus one player, so I think we are ready in that regard.”

The conference tournament will officially begin on Thursday as No. 4 Southern Nevada meets No. 5 Colorado Northwestern. The winner will move on to meet the host school Snow College on Friday for the right to advance to the title game.
