The Emery Spartans used a huge seventh inning rally to top the North Sevier Wolves 11-4 Friday afternoon in Salina, earning a season series sweep in the process.

Down to their final three outs and trailing 3-2, the Spartans posted nine runs in the final frame to create an eight run advantage. The Wolves were only able to counter with one run in the bottom half of the inning, leading to their 11th consecutive loss.

Zac Jorgensen finished 2-4 at the plate with a game best three RBI. Logan Labrum recorded three singles as he finished 3-4 at the plate with two RBI. Both Race Nielsen and Tel Gardner also notched three hits a piece as the Spartans finished with 15 total for the game.

Jorgensen rounded out his all-around performance by striking out 10 in six solid innings on the mound. Race Nielsen finished the final inning, recording two strikeouts to help secure the victory.

Friday’s win moves Emery into a second place tie with the Grand Red Devils, and just one game back of the Gunnison Bulldogs for first in the region. With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Spartans will meet the Bulldogs in a away-and-home set on Tuesday and Friday.

Emery will need to win both games over Gunnison in order to have a chance at the region crown. Tuesday’s road contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m..
