The Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Demolition Derby will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 6:00 pm, gates will open at 4:00 pm at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.

Price City’s annual International Days celebration is taking place on July 27 through July 29, members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue will be there at Washington Park to help promote the Demolition Derby. “Our Search and Rescue group has a booth at International Days, they are going to be there. They are going to be selling Derby Tickets in advance,” said Carbon County Jeff Wood. Advance admission prices this year are $6.00 for children and $8.00 for adults. If purchased at the gate on the day of the event there will be a slight increase in price.

The booth set up at International Days will allow community members to purchase opportunity tickets for $2.00 each or 12 for $20.00 to try to win a chance to drive in the demolition derby. In order to participate drivers must have a valid driver’s license and be present to win. “Two different cars that they have built, one is last year’s car they’ve refurbished, the other one is a new car,” said Wood. A second opportunity drawing will be held for a chance to win items from Metal Works, gift cards from Tire King, Farlaino’s, Wingers, an electric fireplace from A. Johnson’s Heating and much more. The opportunity tickets are $1.00 each or $10.00 per book, need not be present to win.

Proceeds from the opportunity tickets and event help fund the unpaid group of volunteers with training, equipment, fuel, repairs, utilities and more. The members are a part of the team that work to better serve their community in times of need. The program without the support through various fundraisers would make it impossible to operate a successful Search and Rescue Team.

“We have close to 30 cars right now, I expect some more to come. There is always the last minuters that show up,” stated Wood. The classes this year are compact minis chain and bang, misfit, truck derby, mini van/mini truck and 80s or newer chain and bang. This year the payout is based on how many cars are registered in each class, 15 or more will award $4,000.00 to first place, $1,750.00 to second place and $750 to third. For a class with 9 to 14 cars, first place will receive $1,500 and second will get $750.00. A smaller class is considered 4 to 8 cars and will pay $1,000.00 to first place.

A lot of planning, changes and/or additions to participant rules and adding some car classes to the derby event organizers are ready to see it all come together for the community to enjoy. Wood added, “It’s going to be fun. Good food, good friends, good time, good ol’ Carbon County night – August 12.” For more information on the Demolition Derby stop by Tire King located at 535 East Main Street.
