There is only twelve days till one of the biggest events in Carbon County that local community members look forward to every year. The annual Search and Rescue Demolition Derby will take place on Saturday, August 12 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds, gates will open at 4:00 pm and main event starts at 6:00 pm.

“We had 28 signed up last I knew, with 2 that Search and Rescue built that makes 30. So, I hear tale that we have cars coming from as far away as Hurricane,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. There is still time for individuals to register their cars in the following classes: compact minis chain and bang, misfit, truck derby, mini van/mini truck and 80s or newer chain and bang.

This year the payout is based on how many cars are registered in each class, 15 or more will award $4,000.00 to first place, $1,750.00 to second place and $750 to third. For a class with 9 to 14 cars, first place will receive $1,500 and second will get $750.00. A smaller class is considered 4 to 8 cars and will pay $1,000.00 to first place.

Admissions tickets are now available for purchase, as Wood explains, “So you can buy tickets in advance through Tire King, Grackos will have some, Carbon Rec., Sheriff’s Office. We’ll have the Command Post out next week in front of Big 5 selling tickets there.” Advance ticket prices are $6.00 for children and $8.00 for adults. There will be a slight increase in ticket prices if purchased at the gate.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the non-profit organization of unpaid volunteers with training, equipment, fuel, repairs, utilities and more. The members are part of a team that work to better serve their community in times of need. Wood finished with, “Please come out and support the Search and Rescue, this is their money maker for the year. The food has been ordered, come hungry, the Derby is going to be good eating there.”
