Each week Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood shares with Castle Country Radio various news, safety tips and other relevant information with citizens within the county. It’s only fitting that the focus was on the youngest members in the county returning to school.

“This time of year, you know with the weather the way it is, you’ll have the kiddies at the school bus stops, we need to watch for them, the young teen driving” said Sheriff Wood. “We have to watch for them because they will be preoccupied and won’t be watching for us.” Drivers should be watchful of school buses that always make frequent stops, students crossing the streets while walking/bicycling and to remember to slowdown in or near school zones areas. The Sheriff’s Office is looking forward to another exciting and successful school year for students.

The Carbon County Fair is closing their month-long weekend events this coming weekend and Sheriff Wood is coordinating a new kids event, he explains further “I’m going to be involved with is Friday at 5 o’clock is the power wheels derby. So, that’s for little kids to bring their little monster trucks and whatever power wheels vehicles they have and we have the little demolition derby that goes along with that.” There is no fee for kids to participate and several prizes will be awarded to the young drivers.

The Carbon County Fair committee began weekend activities throughout August beginning with the Search and Rescue Demolition Derby, along with other activities to lead up to the final weekend. “It’s kind of unique that it’s this late this year, they have a full line up of things to do. We believe that you can’t be a community leader without being a part of the community, so we try to get involved as much as we can” stated Sheriff Wood. Law Enforcement Officers will be in attendance at the fairgrounds
