Townsfolk can always count on each week to gain some great information about safety practices from the Carbon County Sheriff, this week was about Christmas light safety and indoor trees.

“Christmas lights are awesome – But there’s things to keep in mind when your hanging your Christmas lights. You know you want to carefully inspect your holiday light strings each year. Discard any frayed cords, cracked lamp holders or loose connections,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. To prevent electrical hazards, never try to repair a light cord and always unplug cord before replacing light bulbs. Always use the proper ladder when hanging up lights on your homes.

The weather in our area can sometimes be tricky when it comes to installing lights. “In our area, we hang our Christmas lights up and there’s never snow and then by the time you get ready to take them down, there’s snow on the roof, snow on the ground and it’s ok to leave them,” stated Wood. Not till after weather conditions have subsided should you attempt to remove the lights.  As for indoor lights, if you opted for a real tree remember to keep it watered, never leave lights unattended and try to use a timer.

The Carbon County Sheriffs Office hopes that this information is found to be helpful in being safe.
