Safety is always a main topic for Sheriff Jeff Wood’s weekly updates on Castle Country Radio and this week the subject touched base on some issues he has noticed happening in and around the community.

“Make sure you are giving yourself enough time to either start your car and defrost it or give yourself five minutes to scrap the windows off and get ready to go that way. Because there is just too much going on that you shouldn’t drive with a little quarter size hole that you can see out of in your window,” said Wood. Defrosting your vehicle isn’t necessarily a fun task, but it’s a necessary one during the winter season. If you are outside shoveling snow from your sidewalks or driveways, take the time to brush off your vehicle too.

Winter weather can be very hazardous and require attention from drivers to be aware of their surroundings on the road, but to add the distraction of your cell phone is a dangerous. ‘You know if you think about how far your car is traveling, if you are driving at highway speeds, when you look down for three seconds, you have traveling a great deal of space in that time and a lot can happened. Just make sure that you are taking the time to not be texting and driving,” said Wood. If its important, pullover off the road, don’t put your life and others at risk for a short phone call or text message.

The purpose of the safety tips is to bring awareness to residents so they can safely protect themselves, their family and others. To learn more about what is happening at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office visit their Facebook page.
