The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office took part in an Active Shooter Drill arranged by Price City Police on April 11. The surprise scenario was conducted at Carbon High School which led to an immediate lockdown.

“There was a lot of logistics that went into that, a lot of planning, they’ve been planning for about a year, it takes a lot. There was such an awesome turnout, I think there were about 40 officers from about every agency in the county,” stated Wood. “It was an amazing opportunity, we had a great chance to train as a group, to learn how we would respond to such a tragic incident.” Other agencies that took part in the mock drill were Utah Highway Patrol, Adult Probation and Parole, USU-Eastern Police, as well as, Wellington and Helper City.

An assembly was held in the school auditorium after the completion of the drill for students, faculty and staff with an opportunity to ask questions or voice concerns in the presence of the participating officers. “The students actually pointed out areas that we could improve and their perspective is valuable so it was an awesome thing. I just want to give a shout out to Kevin Drolc and his crew over there at Price Police, they did a great job,” said Wood. The entire drill turned out to be a great training tool for not only law enforcement but the entire school.

The CCSO has been receiving complaints from residents living on Carbonville Road, Spring Glen Road about drivers not obeying the speed limit through those areas. “We’re beefing up our patrols in those areas. Of course, we’re going to be everywhere in the county because that’s what we do but you should see a presence of the Sheriff’s Office in those areas,” said Wood. Drivers need to be fully aware of their surroundings when traveling through residential areas, especially when children and pedestrians are visible.
