The school year is over, kids around the Castle Country area are looking forward to a fun summer of various activities with family and friends. However, kids need to know that it’s important that they keep their parents in the loop about their comings and goings during the summer break.

“Be where you are supposed to be. It seems like most kids get in trouble when they’re not where they are supposed to be. If you are supposed to be at Johnny’s house for a sleepover then that is where you need to be,” said Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. “You probably ought to reel yourself back in and go be where your parents think you are. It just seems that over the years that the kids who are not where they’re supposed to be are generally the ones in trouble.” Parents are strongly encouraged to often check on their children to keep them on their toes and by doing so their children are more inclined to be giving truthful information about the plans.

The summertime brings various community events around the area and citizens will see more deputies out at the functions. “We want to be partners with the community. We want to be approachable. We want people to feel comfortable to come up and talk to us. Understand that we have to enforce the law but we would rather be the friendly community pillar that people can come to and feel free to chat with,” stated Wood. The deputies look forward to the opportunities for when they are able to interact with the public in a non-confrontation atmosphere.

The annual Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby is scheduled for August 11.  Tire King located at 535 East Main Street will again be the hub for drivers to register, obtain a hard copy of the rules and direct any derby questions to.
