Despite a solid individual performance from Oakley Toomer, the Emery Spartans finished fourth overall at the second Region 15 meet of the season Wednesday afternoon in Moab.

Richfield was once again the top team at the second meet with a score of 339, topping second place Grand by four strokes. Manti ended third with a 351, followed by Emery’s 360. North Sanpete rounded out the top five with a 363, well ahead of San Juan and South Sevier.

“It was a rough day for everyone. The temperature was around 100 most of the afternoon,” said head coach Kevin Reynolds. “We shot better than last week so we felt pretty good.”

Toomer fired a team low 81 finishing nine over, just one stroke below his 80 in Richfield for the season opener Aug. 1. Offsetting five bogies Toomer recorded an eagle on the par five sixth hole.

Shaidyn Killpack was second on the team with an 87, while Devan Guymon delivered a 93. The fourth score was Taylor Lindsey’s 93.

The Spartans will get a full week off before returning to region play on Thursday, Aug. 16 at the home course at Millsite. The third region meet of the season will be the lone home competition of the year for Emery.
