Led by freshman Bode Salas, the Carbon Dinos qualified for the second and final day of the 3A State Championship after firing a team score of 346, placing them fourth in the field of 14 at the Roosevelt Golf Course.

Playing in his first State Championship meet, Salas fired a team low 81. Senior Kaden Slavensky helped push the Carbon score with an 84, followed by Nick Olson’s 85. Jordan Penovich and Daron Garner tied for the team’s fourth score at 96.

Morgan captured a commanding 11-stroke lead at the top of the team leaderboard after ended with a score of 317. Sophomore Tanner Telford is currently at the top of the individual overall standings, leading the Trojans with a 70.

Judge Memorial is currently in second with a score of 328. Richfield holds a slight edge over Carbon by just two strokes at 344. Delta trails Carbon by one stroke after a finishing with a 347.

Grand, Manti, Union and Grantsville all survived the first day cut, finishing inside the top nine. The season has come to an end for South Sevier, Juab, Emery, American Leadership Academy and South Summit.

Carbon will have an opportunity to climb the team leaderboard when play resumes Thursday morning. Brandon Scovill will be the first to tee-off on hole No. 1 at 9:20 a.m..
