The USU Extension Office, along with Price River Watershed Conservation District are hosting the annual Castle Valley Crop School on Wednesday, February 5 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This free event is open to anyone in the agricultural field and it will take place at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of USU Eastern.

“So this is an annual event that we’ve been doing for, I think this is our ninth year and essentially its just a way for us to get back to producers, growers and our area Carbon and Emery counties and give them some good information, give them some education,” said Agriculture Agent, Steve Price. This is a great opportunity for agriculturists in the surrounding area to come together to speak about their daily operations and farming procedures.

The evening will start out with a trade show with various vendors set up with the newest and latest products for agriculturists. “We have irrigation suppliers, we have local Ag companies so like IFA has been a long sponsor of ours, they’ve helped us out for quite a while. Valley Implement is one they’ve helped us out for a while.  So it kind of changes year to year,” stated Price. There will be many door prizes given throughout the evening.

A light dinner will be served as special guest speakers will present educational seminars entitled no-till planting, crop management and NRCS’s Conservation Stewardship Program. Price briefly explains the Stewardship Program, “In a nut shell it’s basically a land stewardship program that you can go in with NRCS take some of your agriculture land, implement some best management practices that benefit your natural resources and retain some of your land value while also helping wildlife.” Representatives from NRCS will be on hand after the presentation to answer any questions guests may have about their program.

Event organizers would like folks who are interested in attending to please RSVP so they have an idea of how much food will be needed for the dinner. The deadline to RSVP is January 24. Please RSVP by contacting Julie Weber at (435) 381-2300, ext. 101 or (435) 749-2975.
