The Green River Pirates traveled to Bicknell on Thursday to take on the Wayne Badgers. The game remained close from beginning to end, but when the dust settled the Pirates would come away with the one point victory 53-52.

The game went back and forth with no team holding more than a two point advantage at the end of each of the quarters, and going into the final period the Badgers would actually hold a one point advantage. The Pirates matched their intensity and would carry it through for the win.

Leading the way for the Badgers were seniors Schade Torgerson and Tyrel Brian who would both score 11 points on the evening. Senior Logan Chappell and junior Jesse Webb would drop in seven each in the loss.

For the Pirates senior Axel Anguiano would lead all scorers with 20 points, junior Rad Hughes added 13 and senior Virg Mendoza had 8 in the win, their tenth of the season.

Green River currently finds themselves at 10-4 and #8 in the UHSAA RPI, and head into the upcoming week preparing to face Grand, the #12 team in 3A on the Pirates home floor on Wednesday the 22. Then two days later will head to Monument Valley on Friday to take on the Cougars.

The 2019-2020 season is slowly winding down with Green River have just three region games left after this week, and five left overall before we know it, it will be playoff time.
