Finishing the season at 3-18 and going 0-6 in conference play the Pinnacle Panther volleyball squad played in possibly the toughest region in 1A. Half of conference was in the top 10.

Finishing at No. 19 in 1A in the new RPI poll set forth by the Utah High School Activities Association, put them in the State Championship Playoffs the final week of October.  In the opening round they faced off against Wayne the No. 14 team and were defeated in straight sets.

Below is a complete recap of each contest throughout the season, plus a look at the team’s individual stats:

August 23- Water Canyon- Loss 3-1

In the opening match of the season the Panther volleyball squad would travel to Hilldale to take on Water Canyon.

The first two sets would be competitive with Pinnacle winning the second one 25-21. But the final two sets would go to Water Canyon 25-11 and 25-16.

Samantha Kessler had two kills for the Panthers. Stephanie Sasser would add three serving aces to go with 12 digs, Destinee Andrews had seven and Jacee Atwood 10.

August 27- Merit College Prepatory Academy- Loss 3-0

After losing the opening match of the year the Pinnacle Panthers would head to Springville to take on Merit College Prepatory Academy. The result wouldn’t change however with Pinnacle falling in straight sets 25-3, 25-17, 25-19.

Destinee Andrews registered three digs and two kills in the loss. Stephanie Sasser added one block.

August 29- Freedom Prep Academy- Loss 3-1

In the home opener the Panthers welcomed Freedom Prep Academy from Provo to Price. In a very competitive match that would have Pinnacle winning just one set, but that wouldn’t be enough as the Panthers would lose their third in a row 25-16, 25-18, 13-25 and 25-15.

Destinee Andrews had 10 kills. Stephanie Sasser collected three aces and five digs. Kemery Stuckenschneider and Angel Welch had six assists each.

September 5- Freedom Prep Academy- Loss 3-2

Just one week after falling to them at home, Pinnacle was on the road to take on Freedom Prep Academy. And even though the venue changed the outcome did not and the Panthers fell in five sets 25-15, 20-25, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-9.

Stephanie Sasser would continue to fill her stat line with three kills in the match. Kemery Stuckenschneider added two service aces and Destinee Andrews had eight digs.

September 10- Diamond Ranch Academy- Loss 3-0

After dropping their fourth match in a row Pinnacle would hit the road and head to Hurricane to face the Diamond Ranch Academy Diamondbacks. While all three sets were hotly contested, Diamond Ranch would take the win in straight sets25-16, 25-22, 25-22.

It once again was the Stephanie Sasser show with the senior leading the team in kills (3), blocks (4) and digs (3).

September 12- Escalante- Loss 3-0

After five losses the Panthers would welcome Escalante to Price looking for the first victory. Escalante

would claim the straight set win 25-17, 25-17, 25-10.

Samantha Kessler would lead the Panthers with two service aces , while Stephanie Sasser had another great match registering four kills, three digs and two blocks.

September 13- Merit College Preparatory Academy- Loss 3-1

In the second meeting of of the season between the two squads this season, Pinnacle would welcome Merit Preparatory Academy to Price. In the first meeting the Panthers would fall 3-0 back on August 27, in the second meeting they would come out dropping the first set by four point 25-21, and would go on to drop the second set 25-11 coming back to win the third 25-18 and would battle in the fourth but would fall 26-24.

Destinee Andrews would collect three digs along with Stephanie Sasser. Sasser would also register seven kills, four assists and two blocks.

September 17- Tintic- Win 3-0

The Pinnacle Panthers volleyball team went to Eureka on Tuesday in search of their first win and they found it, beating the Tintic Miners in straight sets.

The Panthers who sit a 1-7 overall and 0-1 in region play, still have six matches left in the second half of the season. They hopefully can take the momentum from this win and let it carry them the rest of the way.

Senior Stephanie Sasser led Pinnacle in both kills, with four and nine digs. Junior Angel Welch and sophomore Kemery Stuckenschneider ended with two assists each.

The Panthers schedule doesn’t get that much easier as four of their last seven games are on the road, three of which are against region foes. Pinnacle is currently sitting in fourth in conference.

September 20- Dugway- Win 2-1 Wendover Tournament

The Pinnacle Panthers volleyball squad were in Wendover for a tournament, and while they started strong they finished with a record of two wins and three losses.

With wins against Dugway and Wendover ,the Panthers made noise early the last day was another story losing matches against Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s, Tabiona and St. Joesph.

In the first match on Friday the Panthers were led by senior Stephanie Sasser, junior Destinee Andrews and sophomores Samantha Kessler with one kill each. Junior Jacee Atwood added 10 digs and junior Angel Welch had two assists.

September 20- Wendover- Win 2-0 Wendover Tournament

Game two would be a straight set victory over host school Wendover. Stephanie Sasser would once again lead the team with six kills and Destinee Andrews would would add 10 digs while sophomore Kemery Stuckenschneider and Angel Welch would have three assists each.

September 21 -Rowland Hall St-Marks- Loss 2-0 Wendover Tournament

The next morning the Panthers would drop their first match of the weekend to Rowland Hall-St. Marks, a 2A school out of Salt Lake City.

Stephanie Sasser and Jacee Atwood both had one kill each as Destinee Andrews added nine digs while Angel Welch would chip in with one assist.

September 21- Tabiona- Loss 2-0 Wendover Tournament

In their fourth game in two days the Panthers would fall in two straight sets to Tabiona.

Stephanie Sasser would come up huge with six kills and 12 digs, while Kemery Stuckenschneider and Angel Welch would add two assists each.

September 21- St. Joseph- Loss 2-0 Wendover Tournament

In the final match of the tournament they would face St. Joseph another 2A team from Ogden.

Destinee Andrews registers 10 kills in this one, while Stephanie Sasser had one kill and Angel Welch added an assist.

September 24- Green River- Loss 3-1

The Green River Pirates traveled to Price to face the Pinnacle Panthers on and while all four sets played were very close the Pirates left town with a 3 sets to 1 win.

The Panthers came out early winning the first set 25-22, but from then on even though the teams were evenly matched Green River would go on to win the final three sets 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21.

Pinnacle (3-11, 0-1 and No. 18 RPI) will be home for a 12:15 meet-up with Monument Valley. This is the first meeting of these two squads this year. Monument Valley won both meetings last year in straight sets. There are only five matches left in the season and after their meeting with Monument Valley, the Panthers won’t be home again until the final game of the season when they will host Whitehorse.

These two teams will meet up again in Green River on October 10.

September 28- Monument Valley- Loss 3-0

The Pinnacle Panthers volleyball squad took to the court for a home match with Monument Valley (7-1 overall, 3-1 in region and No. 1 RPI), unfortunately it was not meant to be with Pinnacle falling in straight sets 3-0.

The Panthers struggles continue this season as they have lost their last five matches. Currently they sit at 3-12 overall and 0-2 in region with a 18 RPI.

Monument Valley came out early winning the first set 25-12. They would go on to win the next two sets 25-22 and 25-7. Monument Valley is tied with Green River for first place in Region 19 standings after defeating the Pirates.

October 1- Whitehorse- Loss 3-0

The Lady Panthers took the long bus ride to Montezuma Creek to face the Whitehorse Raiders. The outcome was not what they expected losing in straight sets.

Whitehorse (4-5 overall, 1-2 in region and No. 13 RPI) took the first set 25-14, they would go on to take sets two and three by the scores of 25-12 and 28-21. Pinnacle (3-13, 0-3 and No.18 RPI) have struggled lately losing their last six matches heading into the last month of the season. They have three matches coming up against teams in the top 15 of the 1A RPI standing

October 3- Escalante- Loss 3-0

As the season comes to a close Pinnacle would travel to Escalante to face them for the second time on the season. Back on September 12 they faced off in Price with Escalante taking the first meeting in straight sets. The second meeting would have the same outcome 25-18, 25-16 and 25-15.

Samantha Kessler and Stephanie Sassser collected four kills each. Sasser also contributed eight digs as well with Jacee Atwood adding seven. Kemery Stuckenschneider also added four assists.

October 10- Green River- Loss 3-0

With just over two weeks left until the beginning of the 1A State Championship Tournament, the Green River Pirates and the Pinnacle Panthers volleyball teams faced off for the final time in the regular season. The two teams met back on September 24 in Price where the Pirates came away with the 3-1 victory. This time the venue would change but the final result did not. In Green River on Thursday night the Pirates would come away with the straight set win, 3-0.

The Pirates would strike early and often taking the first two sets by the same score 25-9. The final set they would dominate as well 25-8.

Pinnacle (3-15, 0-4 and No. 19 RPI) have two matches remaining on their schedule. Saturday Oct. 12 they will travel to Monument Valley (8-3, 4-1 and No. 5 RPI) for the second time this season. On September 28 the Cougars defeated the Panthers 3-0. Then in the final match of the year Pinnacle welcomes Whitehorse to their gym. Back on Oct. 1 the Raiders were victorious 3-0. This match is set to begin on Oct. 15 at 6:15.

October 12- Monument Valley- Loss 3-0

In the final regular season road game of the season, the Panthers traveled to Monument Valley to take on the Cougars. Pinnacle would fall in straight sets 25-19, 25-22 and 25-27, registering their 16 loss of the season.

Senior Stephanie Sasser would fill her stat line with three kills, three blocks and also three service aces.

October 15- Whitehorse- Loss 3-0

In the final game of the regular season the Panthers would host the team from Whitehorse. Back on October 1, Pinnacle traveled to Montezuma Creek and would lose in straight sets. On this occasion even though it was a very competitive meeting the Panthers would fall in straight sets 25-21, 25-22 and 27-25.

In her final home game senior Stephanie Sasser registered seven kills and three digs. And junior Angel Welch also added three digs.

October 26- Wayne- Loss 3-0

The Pinnacle Lady Panthers volleyball squad played their final match at the 1A State Championship Tournament against Wayne, the No. 14 seed. The Panthers would fall in straight sets 3-0.

Pinnacle finished the season 3-18 overall and went 0-6 in Region 19 play. Led in most categories this season by senior Stephanie Sasser, the Panthers will be looking for the underclassmen this year to step up next season.

Junior Destinee Andrews along with sophomores Samantha Kessler and Kemery Stuckenschneider played big for the team this year.

Region 19 was a tough place to reside this year with three teams in the top 15 of all of 1A, and one of those teams, Monument Valley, ranked top three.
